Fire crews in Northern Ireland called to free 220 obese people: Call-outs double in three years
The number of Northern Ireland callouts for firefighers to help obese people has more than doubled in just three years.
Fire crews have helped assist some 220 obese people since 2010.
Those helped weighed up to 60 stone.
That assistance cost the taxpayer £650,000.
Crews helped 25 obese people in 2011. But three years later, that number shot up to 54.
The information on callouts was obtained through a Freedom of Information request from the Irish News.
