Five released after stab death quiz

Five people arrested in connection with the death of a 21-year-old man in east Belfast have been released pending reports to prosecutors.

The two women and three men had been in custody for questioning about a stabbing incident in which James Stitt was killed.

Mr Stitt, who was from east Belfast, suffered fatal injuries in the Castlereagh Place area of the city on Saturday evening.

Detectives said files on all five suspects would be passed to the Public Prosecution Service (PPS) for assessment. The PPS will ultimately decide whether any charges are brought.

Police said the five people had been reported to the PPS to establish whether there were grounds to prosecute them for the offence of affray.

A PSNI spokeswoman said: "Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of James Stitt."
