Former Miss NI Tiffany Brien: I don't always look like this, sometimes I look like that

By Angela Rainey

A former Miss Northern Ireland is lifting the stigma on bulging bloated bellies, after revealing how her tummy swells so much it can make her look pregnant.

Tiffany Brien posted a photo online of her swollen stomach then another only 12 hours later where it had deflated, displaying her taut abs - and the shots have been bringing comfort to bloated women everywhere.

The 26-year-old from Belfast, who has a large group of social media followers of her fitness posts, uploaded the shots on Facebook, saying: "No I'm not six months pregnant.

"It's just my food baby... These two photos are 12 hours apart, before bed and right when I woke up... I know, right!"

The beauty queen attributes her bikini bloat to a mixture of not eating properly, a lack of sleep and hormones, but says she is trying to address her lifestyle.

Ever since she posted the pics, women everywhere have been commending her for her honesty in baring all.

"We are not all what we seem on social media," said Tiffany.

"I thought I would share a bad day with you to show you nobody is 'perfect' and it is OK to have an off-day where your body just decides to not play ball.

"Don't worry girls, it happens to the best of us, all part and parcel of being a female!

"It is a delightful cocktail of lack of sleep, stress, hormones and food intolerances. A mixture for a whole lotta bloat.

She said the bloating can happen at "incredibly inconvenient" times such as at posh restaurants when she's wearing a tight dress.

Although food is probably the main culprit, she cannot pinpoint exactly what causes it.

"This photo is a bad day, a day I cannot tell you exactly what I ate that made me blow up," she said.

"I have gone over everything I ate and I was relatively clean, so it could be something I think is "healthy" that my body now thinks nah! no likey!

"Sometimes your body becomes intolerant to something you've always eaten, you just have to work it out. Fun game though? No. Not really.

"I am in no way perfect. In fact I am miles away from being a role model when it comes to looking after myself fully in this sense - we all have our areas of weakness.

"I know what I am doing wrong and I know how to fix it but it is actually implementing it into your lifestyle that's the tough bit. I am trying extremely hard to sleep more, relax more and eat right (not less, just right) and I am definitely seeing improvement and will share tips and photos as I go."
