Foul play ruled out in fire death

Police in Northern Ireland have ruled out foul play in their investigation into the death of a woman from England killed in a house fire in a town close to the border with the Irish Republic.

Initially officers treated the death as suspicious, but after forensic tests and a post-mortem examination, they said the woman, who came from the Birmingham area, died as a result of a tragic accident.

It is understood there was an open fire burning in the upstairs room of the property at Georges Lane, Newry, Co Down, where the woman had been staying at the time of the blaze late on Saturday night. She has not been named.

Officers are trying to trace two men who raised the alarm.
