Four local people named in New Year’s Honours list
Four people from North Down and Ards have been named in the New Year’s Honours list.
Kevin Houston was awarded an OBE for services to business.
The Holywood man, who is currently managing director of Anderson Manning Associates, said: “ I am absolutely delighted to have been recognised in this way.
“It’s a fantastic honour and I would like to thank and pay tribute to my family, colleagues, business associates, clients, professional advisers, friends and all those who have supported and worked with me over many years. They also deserve to share in this very prestigious award.”
Newtownards man Walter Rader was also awarded an OBE for services to the community in Northern Ireland.
Mr Rader is currently the director of the Big Lottery Fund.
He said: “I am delighted to be honoured in this way and I pay tribute to all my colleagues, past and present.
“It has been and continues to be, a wonderful privilege to work with community organisations right across Northern Ireland.
“In my career, I have had the opportunity to work with amazingly dedicated people who are at the heart of making real impact through their local community projects.”
Bangor charity worker Elizabeth Montgomery was awarded an MBE.
She received the award for charitable services in Northern Ireland and overseas.
In particular she, along with a group of volunteers under the Carrickmannon MRI Support Unit, helped raise £1.4 million to purchase an MRI scanner for the Royal Victoria Hospital in the 1990s.
She said: “I have accepted this award on behalf of everyone involved in the Carrickmannon MRI Support Unit.”
Elizabeth and her group are currently working with a number of charities to raise £1 million for a MRI scanner at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.
Also awarded an MBE was William Martin, chairman of H and J Martin Ltd.
The Holywood man received recognition for services to the Construction Industry in Northern Ireland.
