Four illegal immigrants have been detained after a swoop by officials on two Chinese takeaway premises.

Immigration Enforcement officers visited the restaurants in Co Londonderry and Co Down. Three Chinese nationals - two women aged 46 and 47 and a man (30) - and a 29-year-old Malaysian man, were arrested for working illegally.

They have been transferred to immigration detention while steps are taken to remove them from the country.

Officers went to the China Garden premises at Foyle Street in Londonderry on Thursday and questioned staff.

One Chinese woman, a Chinese man and the Malaysian man, found working in the kitchen were arrested when checks revealed they were in the country illegally.

On Thursday, May 12, officers visited China's Finest, takeaway on Windmill Street Ballynahinch.

A 47-year-old Chinese woman was arrested.
