Carl Frampton has said Saturday night's fight is a "must win" for him and that his "career potentially is over" if he were to lose.

The countdown is on until Carl Frampton returns to the ring at the SSE Arena when he meets Mexican Andres Gutierrez in a WBC World title eliminator.

In January Carl (30) lost his world featherweight title to Leo Santa Cruz at the MGM in Las Vegas. The fight will be his first competitive bout since that defeat.

The build-up kicked off on Wednesday with a public workout at Victoria Square Shopping Centre in Belfast.

A large crowd gathered to watch Frampton in action ahead of the bout at the weekend.

Speaking afterward he said he is "ready to go" on Saturday and was excited to be fighting in Belfast but admitted there was "pressure on him".

He said: "I need to put in a good performance on Saturday night. There is pressure on me for this fight because it's a must win for me. My career potentially is over if I don't win this fight and that brings pressure in itself.

"But there is no pressure fighting in Belfast I wanted to do this, I wanted to come home and fight in Belfast it excites me and I'm looking forward to it."

Frampton again reiterated his desire to fight at Windsor Park in Belfast and said he would consider it a "career regret" if that didn't happen at some point.

He said: "I'm disappointed this fight couldn't be there. I would look back on my career with great regret if that fight never came off.

"At some stage before I hang them up I'd like to fight at least once at Windsor.

"I want to prove to people that the last performance was just a blip and that I still have so much more to give.

"I do want to win world titles and be involved in big fights and box at home and away.

"I've tasted big nights in Vegas and New York and want to go back there."

The excitement continues for Frampton fans this week as on Thursday July 27 at 12.30pm there is the final press conference in the Europa Hotel.

And on Friday July 28  the weigh-in takes place at 1pm at the Europa Hotel in Belfast.

The fight will be shown exclusively on Channel 5.
