Family and friends gathered in Coleraine yesterday for the funeral of Mark Lamont (54) who died two weeks after being seriously injured in an incident in the Ballycastle Road area of Coleraine.

His son Karl carried the coffin as the cortège made its way through the north coast town.

Mr Lamont, who was from the Captain Street area of Coleraine, was rushed to the Causeway Hospital in the town with fractures to his skull and face in the early hours of Monday, September 26. He was later moved to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast where he was placed on a life support machine.

Window cleaner Richard Dalzell (35) from Newtownards has been charged with Mr Lamont's murder.

He denies the charge, insisting he acted in self-defence after being disturbed by Mr Lamont and others during a kitchen sex romp.

Dalzell is to appear at Coleraine Magistrates Court via video link on October 31.
