Sinn Fein MP Francie Molloy has sparked disgust online after making an inflammatory comment claiming that "Brits" were best at murder.

The Mid Ulster politician posted the comment on Twitter in response to a tweet by Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness expressing his opposition to air strikes against IS in Syria.

The comment came as David Cameron attracted fierce criticism for urging his MPs not to vote against action and line-up alongside "a bunch of terrorist sympathisers".

Mr McGuinness tweeted: "The already huge gulf between East and West will tomorrow become even wider. Air strikes a gift to ISIL, Iraq and Libya lessons not being learned".

Mr Molloy responded with the comment: "Brits back to what they do best, Murder."

Mr McGuinness did not respond to this.

However, the exchange prompted outrage on the social media website, but Mr Molloy refused to remove his tweet. DUP Lord Mayor of Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Darryn Causby slammed Mr Molloy as a "disgusting man", pointing out how many bombs the IRA had been involved with.

"That's rich coming from you, what about Claudy, Banbridge, Shankill and others," he tweeted in response to Mr Molloy's original statement.

Ross Graham also blasted Mr Molloy, tweeting: "What a stupid, appalling statement which would be condemned by all Irish people, north and south".

And Philip Peacock added: "Kinda ironic considering your mates".
