Gaelgoir nets website award
South Belfast resident Michelle Gallen has been named the winner of the TalkTalk Digital Heroes Award for Northern Ireland for her role in using digital technology to benefit the local community.
Michelle received the most votes in Northern Ireland and joined 11 other regional winners hoping to be crowned TalkTalk’s national Digital Hero 2010 at an event at the House of Lords this week.
Michelle has developed a social networking site where people can find and connect with Irish language learners, speakers and teachers.
She says she’ll use the grant to make the website self-sustaining so that this dying language can be preserved.
As well as taking home a prize fund of £5,000 to enhance her digital project, Michelle has now been shortlisted in the nationwide final and is in with a chance of winning the title of the UK’s Digital Hero 2010 and a grand prize of £10,000.
