A north Antrim road made famous by fantasy drama Game of Thrones is set for special protection.

The Dark Hedges are at risk from increased traffic as more tourists flock to the attraction on the Bregagh Road.

But Transport NI is now in discussions with Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council about introducing a new traffic management system in the area.

Infrastructure Minister Chris Hazzard revealed in response to an Assembly question that a number of measures were being considered, including better parking, a footpath and even banning vehicles from the road.

Dark Hedges Preservation Trust chairman Mervyn Storey said up to 100 people visited the attraction every day and urged those people to park their cars and walk to the hedges to enjoy them properly.
