Game of Thrones was the most pirated TV show in the world in 2015 - the fourth year the fantasy drama filmed in Northern Ireland has topped the charts.

The website Torrentfreak reported that with an estimated 14.4 million downloads, the 2015 season finale "beat the competition by a landslide".

More than half of those downloads came in the first week after the series premiere aired.

The total even exceeds the number of viewers watching the show legally in the US.

Game of Thrones broke a piracy record earlier this year when 258,131 people shared the same file simultaneously.

In April, the first four episodes of the fifth series were leaked early online and after 18 hours there were more than a million downloads for the first episode.

The Walking Dead and Big Bang Theory made up the top three with an estimated 6.9 and 4.4 million downloads respectively, Torrentfreak reported.

The sixth series of the hit HBO drama is currently in production and is expected to be broadcast on the Sky Atlantic subscription channel in late April.
