Garda holds suspect over 2012 murder by dissidents

By Michael McHugh

A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Andrew Allen in Co Donegal.

Mr Allen (24), from Londonderry, was shot dead in front of his girlfriend at a house in Buncrana in February 2012.

The Garda arrested the suspect, aged in his early 50s, on Saturday.

He was being questioned yesterday by detectives in Letterkenny.

The victim, who was from the Top of the Hill in the Waterside area of Derry, was one of several people intimidated out of the city by dissident republicans.

Mr Allen, a father of two young children, had moved to the Links View estate in Buncrana, where he was gunned down through a window after a group of men tried to break down the front door.

The attack was blamed on the Republican Action Against Drugs group.
