Garda killer who stabbed wife may get more jail time
Irish prosecutors will argue in November that garda killer Pearse McAuley's 12-year prison sentence for stabbing his wife was "unduly lenient".
McAuley (50) had pleaded guilty to seriously assaulting and falsely imprisoning his estranged wife at the home they once shared in Co Cavan on Christmas Eve 2014.
The former IRA member, from Strabane, was sentenced to 12 years' imprisonment last year, with the final four suspended.
Irish authorities are seeking a review of his sentence on grounds it was unduly lenient.
McAuley was previously convicted of the manslaughter of Garda Jerry McCabe and sentenced to 14 years' jail in 1999.
