The funeral of a Co Londonderry man killed in a building site accident in Australia is has taken place today.

Gerard Bradley (29), from Coleraine and Joe McDermott (24), from Omagh, died after a concrete slab fell on them as they worked in east Perth.

Mr Bradley was buried in Coleraine following Requiem Mass at St Malachy’s Church. A celebration of his life will be held at Portstewart Golf Club in the evening.

Mr McDermott’s funeral will take place at Sacred Heart Church in Omagh on Monday.

His family has asked for donations in lieu of flowers to the Claddagh Association in Perth or the Kevin Bell Repatriation Fund.

Both organisations were heavily involved in supporting the men’s heartbroken families since last week’s tragedy.

Mr McDermott moved to Australia to begin a new life just weeks before the tragedy. His parents, Tommy and Donna, and sister, Lauren, said: “We are devastated by Joe’s death. We will always remember him as the bright and bubbly young man that he was.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
