German beer festival set for Custom House Square Belfast

Beer lovers rejoice and get ready to raise your steins as a German festival is coming to Belfast this spring.

German Bierfest will take over Custom House Square this May and promises guests an amazing experience of German culture.

The organisers hope to make it an annual event as they bring along with them market stalls, beer garden and a funfair.

Festival director Carsten Raun said: "We want to bring a new attraction to Belfast and we expect up to 10,000 visitors.“And people of all ages are welcome”.

Visitors will experience the vintage setting of the German Village with wooden huts with all kinds of original products from wurst to sweets and soucvenirs.

There will be a beer garden and a Sekt Garden - an exclusive area that offers an opportunity to taste the famous Sekt or German sparkling wine.

There will also be the Fun Time Area with funfair games such as Hau den Lukas, familiar bull-riding and a shooting hut.

In addition there will be the Fest Tent where a German band will entertain revelers all night with live music and performances.

Guests will be seated next to one another by the long tables and benches. There is a limited capacity of 1200 seats so organiser advise guests to book tickets online.

What beers will be on offer?

Three types of beer namely Bavarian Weißbier, Festbier and Craftbier are presented by Bavarian Festbeer Brewery, located in the north of Bavaria, Germany.

A selection of savory German delicacies such as Schnitzel, Brezel, Hendl will be also be available.

How long is it here for?

Belfast German Bierfest is open daily from May 18– 22.

German Village: Entrance is free

Wednesday May 18th 16:00-22:00

Thursday May 19th 12:00-22:00

Friday May 20st 12:00-22:00

Saturday May 21st 12:00-23:00

Sunday May 22nd 12:00-19:30

Fest Tent: Entrance is free on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday and £5 on Friday and Saturday.

Wednesday May 18th 17:00-23:00

Thursday May 19th 17:00-23:00

Friday May 20th 16:00-23:00

Saturday May 21st 14:00-23:00

Sunday May 22nd 12:30-19:30

Children are welcome in the German Village and only on Sunday in the Fest Tent. The age limit for the Fest Tent on other days except Sunday is 18+.
