Get funky at birthday bashes
Local DJing gurus Deep Fried Funk have lined up two parties, featuring some of the world's leading dance acts, to mark the clubnight's ninth birthday.
The first party takes place at The Nerve Centre on Friday, December 22 and features a three hour DJ set from Scotland's premier sonic house outfit, Silicone Soul and a live show from Alloy Mental.
Silicone Soul fill their weekends DJing all over the world, lifting the roof off clubs from Miami to Singapore and from Portugal to South Africa.
Silicone Soul were converted to the house sound of Glasgow by Slam in the early '90s, and since their early releases on Soma they have been refining their unique deep groove.
They scored a top 20 hit all over the world with Right On, Right On and have produced three classic albums for Soma Records as well as working their magic for labels such as 20/20 Vision, Skint and Wall of Sound.
Alloy Mental, the latest project from Ireland's leading dance music star, Phil Kieran, return to Derry following their festival-stealing performance at Celtronic 2006.
Flocks of disciples have converted to their sound, hardened music journalists amongst them; each struggling to decide if this is dance music that rocks, or punk music you can dance to.
Alloy Mental are building a fierce live reputation across Europe with recent support gigs with New Order and performances at the Amsterdam Dance Event and Optimo, Glasgow.
Their debut album is due for release on Skint Records in early 2007.
The second party takes place on St Stephens Night, Tuesday, December 26 at The Nerve Centre and features DJ sets from two of the hottest DJs in the world, Riton and Heidi, as well as a live set from Ireland's fastest rising dance act, The Japanese Popstars.
Riton dropped his critically acclaimed debut LP Beats Du Jour in 2001, and was subsequently hailed as the producer's producer, counting Laurent Garnier, Richard Dorfmeister and Ewan Pearson as fans.
His second album, Homies and Homos, increased his profile further. Riton has spent the last year working on his third album and remixing artists as diverse as New Order, The Human League, The Mystery Jets, Tiefschwarz and The Scissor Sisters.
Riton also DJ's every weekend at clubs world-wide including Bugged Out and Fabric in UK, Panorama Bar, Berlin and The Loft, Barcelona as well as being a regular support act on the Soulwax/2ManyDJ's World Tour.
Heidi is one of the newest artists signed to Berlin's ultracool Get Physical label, home to Booka Shade, M.A.N.D.Y and DJ T.
Originally from Canada, Heidi is now resident in London, from where she's been taking on European clubs and plotting her ascent. Heidi has spent the last year playing at Europe's finest clubs as well as holding down a residency at Club Monza in Ibiza and Frankfurt.
Support at both events comes from Deep Fried Funk resident DJ's David Campbell, Mark Jennings and Pepzi. Tickets go on sale this weekend online at www.wegottickets.com and at The Nerve Centre Box Office on Monday December 11.
