Girls take big Leap
Three north Belfast schools who teamed up to write and publish an innovative book for children promoting tourist attractions in Northern Ireland have finished runner-up in a prestigious competition.
The pupils from Belfast Model School for Girls, Little Flower Girls’ School and Our Lady of Mercy Girls’ School claimed second prize in the e-Skills Prize for Entrepreneurship & e-Skills, which attracted 400 entries from 20 different countries.
The girls’ project was called LeapNI and it was supported by Young Enterprise NI.
They noticed a gap in the market for a story book which would appeal to children and would promote ideas for days-out in Northern Ireland.
Nelson McCausland MLA commented: “This is an excellent project and I wish to congratulate all concerned.
“The pupils and staff from the three schools have worked well together to make it a success and this is an excellent cross-community project through which they have learned about working with others.”
