Glitch closes Belfast waste plant at one of its busiest times
A technical fault closed a recycling centre in east Belfast for a short time yesterday.
The facility at Palmerston Road was temporarily shut shortly after lunchtime.
A spokeswoman for Belfast City Council said: "All our recycling centres experience a high volume of traffic over the Christmas and New Year period, and we encourage residents to make full use of these facilities to recycle as much of their extra waste as possible.
"The Palmerston Road site was closed for around an hour due to an operational issue with a waste compactor.
"The problem was quickly rectified, and the site was reopened to users.
"All our sites (Blackstaff Way, Alexandra Park Avenue, Ormeau and Palmerston Road) are open for business for the remainder of the holidays, with the exception of January 1."
