'Grenade' found in Dundonald security alert

Security alert at Thiepval Barracks Lisburn 'nothing untoward'

A suspicious object, believed to be an old World War II grenade, which sparked a security alert in Dundonald has been taken away for examination.

The Comber Road was closed at its junction with Millmount Road and has since reopened.

A number of houses were evacuated and the Enler centre had been opened for evacuated residents.

Meanwhile an alert at Thiepval Army barracks in Lisburn following the discovery of a suspicious object has ended and has been declared as 'nothing untoward'.

Police and army bomb disposal experts attended the scene where it was understood the object was discovered inside a perimeter fence.

A number of homes were evacuated but residents have since been permitted back to their homes and all roads have re-opened.
