Gunmen who shot a man in his 30s in Londonderry are enemies of the community, a councillor has said.

The victim was hit a number of times in each ankle and thigh during an attack in the Creggan area of the city on Tuesday.

Sinn Fein councillor Kevin Campbell, who visited the scene, condemned the shooting.

He said: "The people of this city do not want these actions taking place on our streets.

"Those carrying out these attacks are at war with the community and they should end their activities now and get off the community's back.

"I would urge anyone with any information on this shooting to bring it forward to the police."

The shooting happened in the Rinmore Drive area about 10.30pm on Tuesday.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact the Police Service of Northern Ireland on 101 quoting reference 1385 09/08/16.
