Gym Selfie: Darren Clarke and Rory McIlroy battle it out to be king of the gym
We expect our top athletes to be in peak physical condition- but are our golfers in competition to show us just how much they work out?
Professional golfer Darren Clarke posted the ultimate gym selfie as he showed off his muscles surrounded by gym equipment.
He posted the picture to Twitter with the caption: "Arms and shoulders this morning. Keep working."
The 46-year-old Dungannon man shed more than four stone last year as he cut out all sugar and now eats a high protein diet.
His picture post was followed by an influx of comments of praise from onlookers, one said: fair play to you mate that's some transformation."
But earlier this week, Holywood's golden boy Rory McIlroy also shared some sweaty snaps with his followers.
The world number one posted pictures of himself lifting a huge amount of weights.
With the strain of the weight etched on his face, the pictures prompted online users to refer to the 25-year-old as performing in "beast mode".
He said: "Great leg workout to start the day! Better never stops."
In the past the pair have taken part in playful competitions with each other.
Earlier this year ahead of the Open Championship at Hoylakes - the pair wagered a private bet as they played a practice round.
They were spotted laughing as McIlroy scored the lowest round of the pair and Clarke was forced to hand over £20 to the Co Down star.
He then held it triumphantly in the air before kissing it in front of Clarke.
