An injured hill walker has been airlifted off the Mourne Mountains in Co Down.

Belfast Coastguard said it was alerted after a 62-year-old woman fell on Slieve Binnian.

Emergency services said the South Down Coastguard Rescue Team located the casualty.

A rescue helicopter from Dublin airlifted the woman from the mountainside and she was taken to hospital.

Officials said the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team was unable to respond to the incident because it was helping another injured walker on Slieve Donard.

Rescuers said the helicopter was also involved in the earlier operation.
