Holiday landlady to fly B&B flag at awards
A Holywood B&B owner will be flying the flag for North Down and the rest of Northern Ireland next week as a finalist in the AA’s Friendliest Landlady of the Year competition.
Bernie McClelland from Rayanne House is one of 20 finalists shortlisted from over 3,000 bed & breakfasts inspected by the AA.
All the finalists have been nominated by the AA’s Hotel Inspectors and the winning landlady will be awarded the coveted title at the AA’s Bed and Breakfast Awards lunch to be held on May 25 at the Royal Horseguards Hotel in London.
According to the AA guests at Rayanne House “will always find a friendly warm welcome from Bernie and her chef husband Conor, together with a boutique experience where the present meets the past”.
“Each individually decorated room is filled with character, maximising the spectacular views, and guests enjoy the gourmet breakfast using fresh local ingredients prepared by Conor,” it adds.
Over the years Bernie has found her landlady duties stretched to include providing a bridesmaid with matching outfit when her luggage went missing, getting a 90-year-old grandmother to her grandson’s wedding when the rest of the wedding party left her behind and also, recently, opening the doors of Rayanne House to local residents evacuated from their homes due to the car bomb at Holywood Palace Barracks.
Commenting on her nomination, Bernie said: “I am immensely proud and honoured to have been selected by the AA as a finalist for Friendliest Landlady of the Year.
“I try to make each guests’ stay special, I set aside time to speak with guests and I like to welcome them individually with my broad Northern Irish smile. I am looking forward to the trip to London for the awards.”
