A controlled explosion has been carried out and homes evacuated following the discovery of a suspect object in north Belfast.

Police are currently in attendance at a security alert in the Woodvale Road area, following the discovery of a suspicious object in the area.

Woodvale Road was closed to traffic and a number of houses evacuated. The area has since reopened.

It's understood a controlled explosion has now been carried out.

Police said nothing untoward was found.
