Homes evacuated after police find bomb in west Belfast

Several homes were evacuated after police discovered a bomb in Northern Ireland.

Ainsworth Avenue in west Belfast was closed off during a security operation to make the area safe.

Inspector David McBride described the device found at the scene as a "crude but viable device".

Army bomb experts defused the explosive and the area was later declared safe.

Roads closed to traffic during the operation were also reopened.

Mr McBride has appealed for anyone with any information about the find to get in contact with police.
