Homes suffer water supply problems

Up to 10,000 homes in Northern Ireland have suffered disruption to the water supply due to industrial action, the provider said.

County Fermanagh and part of south east Tyrone were affected.

Northern Ireland Water staff are in dispute with management about a range of issues.

A Northern Ireland Water statement said: "NI Water regrets as many as 10,000 customers served by the Killyhelvin treatment works Enniskillen may have suffered disruption to their water supply due to ongoing industrial action."

Areas affected include Enniskillen, Lisnaskea, Irvinestown, Fivemiletown, Maguiresbridge, Augher, Clogher, Sixmilecross and Ballygawley.

The statement added: "Despite the fact the company has in place contingency plans to minimise disruption due to the industrial action, resources available to NI Water, out of normal working hours, remain very limited.

"As a result service levels have been impacted, in particular in relation to responses to emergency situations."
