Horse trading is banned Lamas Fair
The tradition of horse trading is to end at the Oul’ Lamas Fair in Ballycastle.
Moyle District council last night banned the age-old and much loved trade in horses on safety grounds.
Councillor Randal McDonnell said the decision had been taken on safety grounds as a result of horse-trading becoming “a spectator sport”.
“The horse-trading has been going on and people, who have a very naive attitude towards horses in the sense that they have been walking about, even children, six inches from a horses hoof and it’s too dangerous,” he told the BBC’s Good Morning Ulster programme.
