Hundreds attend funeral of tragic referee
A GAA referee who collapsed during a hurling match last week and later died was described as a "giant" during his Requiem Mass yesterday.
Hundreds of mourners, including deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness, and members of the GAA from across Ireland packed into the Church of Saint John in Swatragh, Co Derry, for the funeral of Martin Mulholland.
The 59-year-old Slaughtneil clubman collapsed while refereeing a Derry senior championship hurling game between Dungiven Kevin Lynch's and Saint Colm's Ballinascreen at Swatragh last Friday night.
Loudspeakers relayed Requiem Mass to hundreds unable to again entry to the crowded church.
