In my day: Camila McCourt on the time of her life
We quiz CastleCourt's marketing manager, Camila McCourt
Q. What was your decade and what was life like?
A. The Nineties were definitely the most memorable for me. As a teenager growing up in Dungannon, my eyes were wide open to what was happening around the world and it was all so new and exciting.
Q. What were you listening to?
A. Like any girl my age, MTV was our mainstay, with pop music the default choice, and I was a huge Madonna fan. Once I left school, dance music took over and it would be fair to say I enjoyed a boogie or two during my college years.
Q. And the style?
A. Like everything else at that time, I had a bit of a rebellious streak and enjoyed some interesting outfits but I think everyone was experimenting and taking inspiration from what they were seeing on screen.
Q. What has changed?
A. Well aside from the fact that I am now a working mum with a lot more responsibilities in my personal and professional life, I think the key difference is the level of accessibility we all have to each other's lives and news from the rest of the world, and it is difficult to avoid or ignore the 24/7 mentality.
Q. What was better back then?
A. It would have to be the sense of freedom only a teenager can feel! Well that and I didn't have to worry about awful photos from random gigs or parties being posted on social media, because it didn't exist yet!
