In the lap of luxury while being ferried to official duties
One of the privileges of being Belfast's first citizen is access to a luxury car and a driver.
The current vehicle – a BMW 7 Series – can do 0-60 in 6.9 seconds. It's also six-speed automatic and has air suspension, rain sensors and an air bag system. The new car will be even more advanced.
The strategic policy and resources committee heard a recommendation that it should include wifi and in-car entertainment. Some of the luxury cars available in the £70,000 price bracket include the Jaguar XJ Premium Luxury SWB from £67,670, Audi A8 from £58,805 and Mercedes S Class from £66,910, although none of these prices may include extras such as bullet-proof glass.
To stick with BMW, the make of the current car used to ferry the Lord Mayor about, the 7 Series starting from £58,454 is the obvious option.
It comes with a fine wood trim and leather upholstery in your choice of colour and a host of optional extras including a massage rear seat back rest, ambient lighting, driving assistant, night vision with passenger recognition, park assist, heated rear seats, internet and even a TV.
