Irish myths stained-glass window installed at Belfast City Hall

A new stained-glass window depicting Irish myths has been installed at Belfast City Hall.

The window, designed by Martin Donlin, is inspired by legendary warrior Cu Chulainn and the Cattle Raid of Cooley and was commissioned by the council following a £12,000 probe on the level of military memorabilia displayed in the Edwardian building.

The report also examined how often the Union flag flies after a number of complaints from republicans.

Lord Mayor of Belfast Niall O Donnghaile, who unveiled the new window, said: “City Hall is Belfast’s most iconic building and welcomes hundreds of tourists and visitors through its doors every week.

“We commissioned this window with the aim of creating something that would reflect Celtic myths and legends and I think Martin has done a fantastic job of bringing the well-known story of Cu Chulainn to life.”
