Irish Open 2015: Have you spotted 'George Clooney' roaming Royal County Down?

By Claire Williamson

Have you spotted any celebrities roaming around Royal County Down? It seems as though the Irish Open 2015 hasn't just attracted the elite of the golfing world to Northern Ireland.

Social media is rife with speculation as beady-eyed spectators are on the look-out for the A-List celebrities rumoured to be strolling around Newcastle.

And the initial rumours seemed to suggest that Holywood's Rory McIlroy has some serious pull in Hollywood too.

But unfortunately, social media users have been duped into thinking that Hollywood heartthrob George Clooney had been strolling along the streets of Newcastle.

However it seems it was nothing more than a cruel but clever photoshop.

World number one Rory McIlroy  is hosting the golfing extravaganza at the Royal County Down and kicked off proceedings with a star-studded charity bash.

As well as the golfing stars who are taking part in the Irish Open 2015- the world number one brought along a host of sporting greats and names from the world of showbiz who took part in the Pro-Am on Wednesday ahead of the competition starting today.

But now it seems that off the course there could be a chance of spotting some more famous faces who are rumoured to be enjoying the Co Down coast.

But while the reports of George Clooney so far have turned out to be untrue - there are plenty of other faces to look out for.

Also rumoured to be in Northern Ireland is David Beckham along with his family and Wayne Rooney.

In addition to this, the line-up of famous names who joined Rory McIlroy to play in the star-studded Pro-Am tournament was led by Australian cricket legend Shane Warne.

Warne was joined by a host of high-profile sportsmen and well-known faces including Ulster horse racing ace AP McCoy, footballing legend Pat Jennings, comedian Patrick Kielty, actor James Nesbitt, former Ulster Rugby star Stephen Ferris and snooker star Denis Taylor.

It is one of McCoy's first major engagements since retiring from the saddle.
