School sports fans of two completely different codes had a big day out yesterday despite the gloomy and cold conditions.

In girls hockey, those backing Victoria College Belfast and Lurgan College clashed at Lisnagarvey in the Belfast Telegraph Senior Schools' Cup final.

Members of Victoria College's stellar team of '73 were out in force to back their modern counterparts.

Unfortunately for the old VCB girls, last year's runners- up Lurgan were just a little too strong and ran out winners by the only goal scored in the match.

It was also a red letter day for Schools' Cup Rugby with favourites Methody College Belfast meeting Royal School Armagh in the semi- final.

Methody were far too strong, trouncing Armagh 29-3. They will now meet 'old enemy' Inst in an all-Belfast final.
