Jail threat to Coleraine benefits fraudster
A Coleraine woman will be jailed unless she hands back £11,540 in benefits she claimed illegally.
Patricia Kane (60), of Burnside Park, had pleaded guilty to four charges of failing to declare that she held significant funds in her bank accounts before she received £20,313 in benefits she was not entitled to.
Kane had claimed income support and rates rebate over a four-year period on the grounds she had no savings or other source of income.
Now the Social Security Agency's financial investigation unit has obtained a confiscation order at Antrim Crown Court to the value of £11,540.
Kane has until May 12, 2014 to hand over the money and faces a three-month prison sentence if she fails to pay up.
