A Bruce Lee student is to oversee the opening of a new martial arts club in east Belfast
Tylus Quan Do will be at Clonduff Community Centre to introduce Corecombat Unlimited to locals.
It uses the Bruce Lee concept of Jeet kune Do.
The main basis of the CCU is around training and learning Wing Chun Kung Fu and applying four other arts (Jeet Kune Do, Mauy Thai, Penjak Siltat and Kali/Escrima.
It also uses some Brazillian Ju Jitsu. Yoga, fitness, self-defence and mind concentration also play a big part in the system and| training.
Corecombat Unlimited was founded by Tylus Quan Do, a third generation Bruce lee student (which means Quan was taught by directly by Sifu-Cas Magda, who was taught by Guru-Dan Inosanto, Bruce Lee’s top student and long term friend).
Quan lives and teaches in Mallorca, Spain. He also travels each year to Thailand to continue teaching and training.
He also travels the world doing seminars and teaching. He was over in Belfast in May this year and is coming back over for two seminars next month in October.
The man behind the new club, Brian Fay, said: “I have been involved in martial arts since I was around 12-years-old.
“I first studied Judo, then moved on to Karate for a few years. I did a little bit of Ju jitsu and Thai Jitsu before taking up Wing Chun Kung Fu.
“I had left the martial arts for a few years due to family and work commitments but decided to go back over a year ago to continue training in Wing Chun after I met and trained with Quan while on holiday in Mallorca.
Quan decided to offer trainee instructor courses and has taken me on as his first trainee instructor in the CCU. There are now six of us in total, I am the only UK based one.”
The first class starts on Sunday at 7.30pm.
More training nights will be added as necessary. It is restricted at this stage to over 18s.
Anyone wishing to attend should call 075 2529 7889.
“The CCU will be looking to expand eventually and will consider serious students who pass the criteria and would like to do so and set up their own club at some stage,” said Brian.
