A North Belfast MLA has received another death threat — the fourth in the space of a month.
Sinn Fein’s Gerry Kelly was informed at the weekend of another death threat made against him, this time by the so-called ‘Real UFF – C Company’.
A codeword was used in the threat which was made from a public telephone box, which claims that Mr Kelly “will be executed within 24 hours”.
He has previously warned back in January of threats from the Orange Volunteers.
Speaking about the threat Mr Kelly said: “As a republican activist this is yet another in a long line of threats made against me, obviously for the sake of my family I have to take them seriously.
“However, I will not be distracted from my work as an elected representative for all the people in north Belfast.
“These types of threats are designed to destabilise the important work that lies immediately ahead for the political process, it will not work,” he added.
Police would not comment on the incident — stating that it was not policy to give out details on individual security cases.
A PSNI spokeswoman said: “We do not discuss the security of individuals. However, if we receive information that a person's life may be at risk we will inform them accordingly.
“We never ignore anything which may put an individual at risk.”
