Police are examining a suspicious object near Killylea, Co Armagh.

The object was discovered on the Elm Park Road on Friday evening.

No homes have been evacuated but the road has been closed in both directions as a precaution.

DUP MLA William Irwin said: "This is concerning that there is the potential for a device of some sort to have been left in the Elm Park a Road area.

"Police have not as yet confirmed if there is in fact an explosive device however I understand the road has been closed as a precaution. Speaking to a contact in the Elm Park road area I understand it may have been a firework type object however we await confirmation from the PSNI."

He added: "Regardless, it has caused disruption and also a risk to those living on Elm Park Road and I totally condemn this reckless behaviour."
