RATHCOOLE is set to pay tribute to its famous sons and daughters in a bid to boost the area's image.
'Born and Bred' the booklet includes biographies and photos of famous and successful people who have hailed from the area included the likes of Johnny Evans, Alan McDonald, Adrian Rice, John Anderson and Michael McAdam.
The booklet is aimed at at creating a more positive image of Rathcoole by promoting the success of those who have come from the estate and done so well in a range of capacities.
Speaking at the launch of 'Born and Bred' international ladies footballer Danielle McDowell said: "I have had to fight my case and be very determined to get recognised as a female footballer, as a result have travelled to many places on an international level and have met many different types of people who are now close friends. I would encourage young people not to let go of their dream as I am an example that dreams do come true."
The design for the community tourism book is a result of close work between the Rathcoole Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership, the local community and Newtownabbey Community High School.
Also speaking at the event owner of Movie House Cinema, Micheal McAdam spoke about how young people can transform their own lives by having focus in life and being determined to work hard and follow their dreams.
The booklet was funded by the Department for Social Development and Newtownabbey Borough Council and can be found at the Belfast Welcome Centre and Newtownabbey Community High School.
