It was a case of hold onto your hat yesterday as ladies from across Northern Ireland showed off the latest trends at Down Royal.
Despite the strong winds and light showers, throngs of people packed the stands of the popular racecourse for the seven races at the annual May Day event.
While some were there for the fashion, others celebrated the start of the new racing season and the bookies were quids in as race-goers tried their luck to back a winner.
There were plenty of tight finishes, but trainer Gordon Elliott had a particularly successful day with his horses placing first in two races, second in a further two races and third in another.
The Down Royal May Day event was one of four major racing events across the UK and Ireland yesterday alongside Windsor, Bath and the Curragh.
