A number of lambs have died in Co Armagh after having their right ears cut off, police have said.

The attacks happened on the Battleford Road, police said the lambs died after suffering a heart attack brought on by the mutilation.

SDLP councillor Mealla Campbell said she is appalled and deeply saddened by the incident.

“I was disgusted to learn of this horrendous, sadistic attack on lambs in the Battleford Road area of Armagh," she said.

"This is a heinous act and has been very disturbing for the farmer involved and indeed the whole community. Local people are aghast and are rightly condemning the incident”

Police patrols in the area have been increased and anyone with information is asked to call the non emergency number 101 quoting ref 1323 9/5/15.
