Land and sea search for missing Co Antrim woman

By John Mulgrew

A land and sea search got under way yesterday for a Co Antrim woman who was last seen on Sunday evening.

Police said they were becoming increasingly concerned for the safety of the woman, named locally as Karen Coyles.

The 47-year-old was last seen in the Ballycastle area at around 7.30pm on Sunday.

Police added she may have been driving a silver Volkswagen Golf, believed to have been parked in the vicinity of McQuillan's GAA club in the town at around 7.45am yesterday.

Ms Coyles is currently club chair of the Ballycastle Camogie Club and a former goalkeeper for the Antrim women's camogie side.

Last night a spokeswoman for the club said they had no information on her disappearance and did not wish to comment further.

It is understood Ms Coyles is unmarried and lives alone in the Ballycastle area.

Police have asked for anyone who saw the missing woman to contact them on 0845 600 8000.
