The world-beating Field Marshal Montgomery pipe band has claimed its first title of the 2016 season.

Led by pipe major Richard Parkes, the band took the top title at the UK Championships held at Stormont on Saturday.

A record entry of 117 bands and 47 drum majors turned out for the musical extravaganza, with new Belfast Lord Mayor Brian Kingston donning a kilt as Chieftain of the Day.

Northern Ireland bands topped the polls in all six adult band competition grades. The PSNI band won the Grade 2 category, while Colmcille from Derry, the Matt Boyd Memorial from Pomeroy, Cleland Memorial from Bangor and St Mary's Derrytrasna from Lurgan won their respective sections.

Local drum majors also enjoyed success. Alicia Dickson of Matt Boyd Memorial won the Senior grade, the UK Juvenile grade was won by Emma Barr of Field Marshal Montgomery and Abigail Wenlock from Cullybackey won the Junior section.
