Law chases murdering dentist Colin Howell’s global wealth
Legal action is under way to seize property and bank accounts in Florida, the Philippines and Nicaragua belonging to killer |dentist Colin Howell.
Details of Howell’s global wealth were revealed during a short confiscation hearing at Belfast Crown Court yesterday.
The Public Prosecution Service has launched legal action under the Proceeds of Crime Act in a bid to recover Howell’s assets.
Crown barrister Neil Connor told Judge Mr Justice Hart that Howell (52) had assets in four separate jurisdictions, making the process to recover them a lengthy one.
He said it was a complicated case with a complicated financial background and that the process to complete the confiscation order would not happen within the six- month time frame as laid down by legislation.
Mr Justice Hart agree to extend the time frame by another three months.
No exact details of Howell’s global bank accounts and properties were revealed during the hearing.
Police have already launched legal proceedings to recover money from Hazel Stewart who received £130,000 in insurance money and from a police pension after her first husband Trevor Buchanan’s death.
Both confiscation proceedings have been adjourned until June.
