It's the big question on everyone's lips - or at least on everybody's screens.

Just who is Ballymena-born Hollywood actor Liam Neeson dating now?

Twitter went into overdrive after the movie A-lister said he was seeing someone "incredibly famous".

But although he may be 'Taken', the 63-year-old star of the hit thriller trilogy is maintaining a stoic silence on the identity of his new love.

Speculation spans five decades, with high-profile names ranging from 25-year-old Twilight actress Kristen Stewart to diva singer Barbara Streisand, who's 73.

Other leading ladies mooted by fans include actresses Susan Sarandon, Uma Thurman, Halle Berry, Charlize Theron, Diane Lane and Meg Ryan.

Dame Helen Mirren (70) - a former girlfriend of Neeson's from over 30 years ago - also got a mention although, as she's happily married to movie director Taylor Hackford, such a belated reunion seems highly unlikely.

But one alternative theory doing the rounds is that it may have been Neeson's joke at our expense.

Before he married Natasha Richardson, many of Tinseltown's most beautiful and famous women were linked to the handsome leading man.

But since her tragic death aged 45 in a skiing accident in 2009, the Northern Irish actor has barely dated at all.

His one relationship - with London-based publicist Freya St Johnston - ended after two years in 2012 as he was still grieving the loss of his wife and the mother of their two sons, Micheal (19) and 18-year-old Daniel.

Indeed, in an interview with GQ magazine last year, Neeson revealed that he had given up both drinking and women to improve his performances in action films.

"I'm keeping myself to myself and I like it that way," he said.

"I'm not hunting. I'm the opposite of - what would a male cougar be? Is there such a thing? Whatever it is, I'm not that."

Between then and now, though, it has obviously become a case of Love Actually for Neeson, who starred in the 2003 Richard Curtis film.

Speaking about his romantic involvement with a new woman, he said: "I'd embarrass her if I said her name, she's incredibly famous." He added: "I'll have to do my best for her. It's amazing how far a simple bunch of picked flowers will go in a lady's life, I find."

To date, Neeson's representatives have declined to comment, so the mystery continues.

In the past, Neeson has dated women he has met on the sets of his films - such as Helen Mirren, with whom he was in a relationship from 1980 to 1985.

They lived together, having met while filming Arthurian movie Excalibur, and Dame Helen later said: "We loved each other. It was difficult to let go."

When he was 35, New York-based Neeson dated 19-year-old Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts from 1988 to 1990, after meeting on the set of the film Satisfaction, and they went on to live together in California.

Other past amours have included the actress and model Brooke Shields and the party-loving supermodel Janice Dickinson.

So, assuming that the father-of-two isn't joking - here's a resume of his potential new love interests:

Hotly tipped for the role is 25-year-old Kristen Stewart. Although young enough to be his granddaughter, the internet is awash with the theory that the sulky, bisexual star of the Twilight movies might just be the lady in question.

Susan Sarandon (69) - with whom he starred in 2006 drama Home - has also been linked to Neeson, as has the gorgeous 45-year-old actress Uma Thurman, his co-star in the 1998 film adaptation of Les Miserables.

Oscar-winner Halle Berry (49) - whose new movie, Kidnap, to be released this year, has been likened to a female version of Neeson's Taken movies - has been mentioned in dispatches, as has 40-year-old Charlize Theron - who starred alongside Neeson in A Million Ways To Die In The West in 2014.

And what about beautiful Diane Lane? Last year, the 51-year-old actress made the yet-to-be released film Felt with Neeson, about Mark Felt, the 'Deep Throat' who blew the whistle on the Watergate scandal in 1972.

There's also singer, songwriter, actress and director Barbra Streisand, who dated the Ballymena man for nine months in 1991 and 54-year-old actress Meg Ryan, a New York singleton who may be in the frame.
