A Co Tyrone blonde beauty last night lost out in her bid for a spot on ITV2's popular reality show Love Island.

Castlederg woman Sinead Hegarty was one of two new contestants who were selected to appear on the controversial show.

Sinead is currently living in Magaluf, where she works as a VIP hostess.

Wearing a red one-piece swimsuit, Sinead described herself as "great banter" to the five blindfolded male contestants who made the decision whether she - or one of the other glamorous contestants - would get to Love Island, but it was not enough to do the trick.

The dating reality programme puts a host of singles in a paradise setting in the hope they can capture the viewing public's hearts in an attempt to walk off into the sunset with a huge cash prize - and potentially a soulmate.

The 23-year-old has been single for a year and rarely dates, but has described her ideal man as a baby-faced boy like Justin Bieber.

However, Sinead said that she wanted to find a man who could take control of their relationship on the island.

Sinead, who described herself as "extremely competitive", said her turn-offs in a man were "laziness and a lack of confidence".

"I need to be number one," she said. Love Island is billed as the "ultimate game of love" as single people jet off to the sun hoping for a summer of passion and romance, all on an idyllic island. Contestants live like celebrities in a beautiful villa, all under the watchful gaze of ITV2 viewers. However, all is not plain sailing in paradise, as viewers get the chance to choose who stays on the show and who goes.

Caroline Flack - Harry Styles' ex-girlfriend - hosts a series of games aimed at finding out just how suited the new arrivals are to life in the villa.

Last night viewers saw the current Islanders select Katie Salmon to stay on in the Love Island villa.

The Co Tyrone blonde battled it out against Liverpool glamour model Katie (20) and Kasey Wynter (31), a personal assistant and part-time model.

Kasey was on Britain's Next Top Model in 2009, and once dated Desperate Housewives star Jesse Metcalfe, who also dated Londonderry singer Nadine Coyle. Only Katie managed to get through the selection process.

Also battling it out for a place on the show was Scot Chelsea Kelly (21).

The show was at the centre of controversy after contestant Zara Holland, who won Miss Great Britain last year, was stripped of her title after she broke the rules by getting too intimate with hunky Alex Bowen.
