Loyalist flag campaigner Jamie Bryson cannot go to Somme parade

BY VICTORIA O'HARA

Loyalist campaigner Jamie Bryson won't be allowed to attend a parade marking the Battle of the Somme after a judge refused to alter his bail conditions.

Mr Bryson (23), of Rosepark, Donaghadee, Co Down, faces six charges connected to the controversy over restricting flying of the Union flag at Belfast City Hall.

Appearing in a Belfast court yesterday, a solicitor acting for the loyalist requested a review of his bail conditions to allow him to attend a parade in North Down on July 1.

Mr Bryson who is a member of the Bangor Protestant Boys Band, had wanted to lay a wreath at the event.

A police officer told the court the PSNI still had "concerns" about Mr Bryson's appearance at parades.

The judge denied permission to attend.

The charges he faces involve allegations of encouraging or assisting offences, and taking part in an unnotified public procession.
