Loyalist in surgery after stabbing
A senior loyalist was undergoing emergency surgery after being stabbed outside a crowded supermarket in north Belfast.
Harry Stockman, 50, was knifed a number of times at the Tesco store on the Ballygomartin Road in front of stunned shoppers at around 4.30pm on Wednesday.
A 30-year-old man was arrested a short time later at nearby Twaddell Avenue.
A spokeswoman for the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast said the stab victim was in theatre undergoing surgery.
Stockman is a leading figure in the Ulster Volunteer Force.
