Firefighters have rescued a couple in their 80s following a two-vehicle collision on the Moneysharvan Road in the Swatragh area of Maghera.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident at around 2:37pm.

A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson: "One Fire Appliance from Maghera Fire Station and one Fire Appliance from Magherafelt Fire Station were deployed to the scene.

"Firefighters using hydraulic cutting equipment extricated a male and female, both in their 80’s from a car. Both were treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to a nearby hospital for their injuries.

"Another male believed to be the driver of a van involved in the incident was out of the vehicle upon arrival of Firefighters.

Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service finished at the scene at around 3:22pm.
