Man (20) admits to rape of Derry teen
A 20-year-old Englishman has pleaded guilty to the serious sexual assault of a 15-year-old schoolgirl inside the grounds of Foyle and Londonderry College's junior school last year.
Adam Titheridge from Sittingbourne in Kent had initially denied raping and assaulting the schoolgirl.
But on the second day of his Londonderry Crown Court trial, before Judge Stephen Fowler, Titheridge was re-arraigned and pleaded guilty to committing both offences on July 8 of last year.
The victim heard her abuser admitting the offences via a live video link from another location.
It was claimed Titheridge had walked with his victim from the Peace Bridge to the college and raped her in the grounds.
Titheridge then fled and his distressed victim ran onto Northland Road and waved down a passing taxi before telling the driver that she'd been raped.
Forensic DNA swabs taken from the victim matched Titheridge.
After the plea, Judge Fowler instructed the jury to return verdicts of “guilty by confession”.
He then ordered the preparation of reports before he sentences Titheridge on January 18. He was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
